1957: John Burton Race is born in Singapore, and spends his early years travelling around the world.
1983 – 2002: He has assorted kitchen jobs at high-star venues in England, such as Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons and L’Ortolan.
2000: John takes over the famous Landmark London Hotel, earning him two Michelin stars.
2003: John Burton Race leaves for France to make ‘French Leave’ and get some inspiration.
2005: After opening a restaurant and hotel in Dartmouth, he is awarded a Michelin star.
2006: John loses a cook-off in Great British Menu to Michael Caines.
2007: John Burton Race becomes a mentor on popular show ‘Kitchen Criminals’. He also appears on the reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!’

French Leave

Part reality show, part cooking show, ‘French Leave’ sees celebrity chef John Burton Race take his entire family, including the dog, to a rural farm-house in south west France for a year.

This hugely popular TV series was directed by Pat Llewellyn, who discovered Jamie Oliver and the ‘Two Fat Ladies’. A book was also written, featuring recipes and stories from the show.
